Treatment with anti-MCMV mAbs limits the loss of spiral ganglion neurons in inner ears of MCMV infected mice. Cochleae were immunostained for tuj-1 (neuronal marker) and imaged by confocal microscopy as described in methods. Spiral ganglion neurons (SGN) were counted in the base, mid, and apex regions of the cochlea. Spiral ganglion from MCMV infected mice contained significantly fewer SGN in the Rosenthal’s canal compared to cochlea from uninfected control (MOCK) or MCMV infected mAb treated (MCMV + mAb) mice. Data displayed as medians with each data point representing an individual ear. All experimental groups compared to MOCK using Kruskal-Wallis test with a Dunn’s multiple comparisons post-test to determine significance (**P < 0.01, *P < 0.05). Note that for MCMV group in APEX, p-value was 0.0504 in comparison the other groups. For each group, n = 2–3 mice (3–6 cochleae)
