Photon irradiation animal model. Animals were irradiated into a SARRP under gaseous anesthesia (a,b). A positioning scanner prior to the photon X-beam irradiation was performed for every animal to adjust the trajectory strictly on the eyeball (c) whilst avoiding peripheral tissues. Irradiated eyes analyzed after one week (d) did not show any visible modification while hair loss, skin depigmentation, and moderate cataract were observed one month after irradiation (e). After six months the depigmentation was still visible, and the cataract was denser (f). Left eyes did not present any visible alteration six months after irradiation (g)
